Hello Robb. I have been following the unmeasured way of
paleoeating for the last six months, but I still have no idea of
how to cut weight before competition in a smart way. I am trying to
qualify for the national championship, but I will have to drop to
the -56 kg class to qualify. My BW is now aprx 59 kg. Do you have
any recommondations? The weigh inn is 1-2 hours before the
competition starts. Otherwise, the paleo diet works very well for
me. I am leaner, stronger and faster than I've ever been! Thanks,
Lars

Andy-
The BBS- will get much more into business systems and running a successful gym. Very little hands-on coaching as compared the the other event, but obviously valuable for the right folks.

No I actually didn't. I am light for the 94kg class, so weight cutting really isn't an issue.

I wanted to give some quick encouragement to anyone out there who is just dabbling with Robb's recommendations/a Paleo Diet. I am 6'1" and a year ago I was "dabbling" with a Paleo Zone and was 216#. My performance was good in the gym, but it was chubby performance. I attended Robb's seminar last April in Santa Cruz and changed my diet drastically. After 3 months of eating right and working out 3-4 times per week, my weight dropped to 191 (185 a few months later), my blood pressure dropped from 140/95 to 118/75, and all of my gym metrics went into PR range.

After all of these great results, I patted myself on the back...and resumed a diet full of rationalized Ben & Jerry's and beer. Slowly I realized that my pants were getting tighter, my workouts were becoming harder, and my weight had risen to 193#. I realized that dabbling is bullshit. We rationalize things like crazy in our minds, especially when those rationalizations include Ben & Jerry's and beer.

My GF and I decided to do a "Paleo Challenge" together for 30 days...we are 24 days in right now. So far, the leaning is incredible. I am down to 184#, she has dropped 11# over the same time. My stomach never felt better, and my head is incredibly clear. Life is freaking long. Take 30 days to test out a completely unadultered Paleo Diet so that life is not long and miserable. Occasional cheat days are okay. Rationalizing a crappy diet not so much.

Hey Robb,

I was wondering what your feelings were regarding competition day eating for Olympic Weightlifting or Powerlifting?

I have been eating Low Carb Paleo and training Olympic lifting and short duration plyometrics exclusively for the past 13 weeks. I have seen awesome results in the gym, but at competitions I tend to get light headed really fast, which has lead to some sub par performances.

Yesterday I competed in the PWA championships and I ate my normal breakfast (4 eggs, veggies, and bacon) and had a little bit of chicken after the weigh-in. During my warm-up I had no energy and it showed on the platform (missed two of three attempts and felt awful).

After the snatches my coach offered me orange and I was willing to try anything at this point so I ate it with a bit more chicken and shotgunned a 5-hour energy. I felt like a million bucks and absolutely destroyed the clean and jerks, craving more after my three successful lifts.

I usually run on black coffee before my workouts, which normally works well, but I did that before the snatches to no avail.

Is there something to be said for replenishing liver glycogen (eating fruit and taking in some fake sugar from the 5-hour energy) before a weightlifting competition? I could be an outlier on this, but I was wondering if there is any science to back it up.

Love the Podcasts by the way.

Robb,

Even though you've fixed it by now and it did actually work by the time I got around to clicking on it I feel I should repeat this one more time.

"The link is Buggered!"

That in addition to the fact that Greg Everett is apparently missing out on seminar with the German National Team coach the weekend of this seminar makes me feel better as I cannot attend.

The hilarious thing about Couch's comment regarding DJ having no squat is a quick google image search turns up this: http://danjohn.net/images/a1DJ.JPG

While there is zero evidence Glassman has ever done anything athletic ever, other than a single pic of a front and back lever from 2003. Waaaaaa ring injury I can't do other than drink gin.
