Hi Robb,
So I took your advice and went from eating "good", to a Gluten-free, legume-free, dairy(ish)-free diet. I don't think that I can go back to gluten foods, I got a dose the other day I though my intestines where committing Seppuku!
This lifestyle change has definitely had an effect on my body composition and pr's in the box. My body weight went down for a bit but then started to climb back to my normal as did my strength. Case in point: after two weeks I added 45 lbs to my Deadlift! Very happy about that! Added fish oil too!

So, When is that book coming out huh, huh?
PS: I was the guy who join you and Scott at the BBQ place in Portland

Thanks for the replies. I tried googling for a dosage and kept getting other blog posts that mentioned your recommendation but nothing directly from you.

Thanks again and I will get that book. Maybe absurd was too harsh of a word but she (my wife) just thought I should ask a doctor before taking that many fish oil caps. Now I got a book by a doctor to show her, ha!

Have your wife read The Omega Rx Zone. I'm not in a position to argue with someone who thinks something is absurd or not...up to her to educate herself on this topic.

That is .5-1.0g/10lbs of BW. the higher end is for folks who are sick....and like I've said elsewhere, this is total EPA/DHA.

Robb,

I forgot to add something to my question:
In the Rx for 1g/10lb/day, is that one gram a total of all the fats in the cap or the total of only the Omega3s(DHA+EPA)?

In my bottle from Costco (Kirkland Brand) it states
Fish Oil Concentrate 1000mg
    Total Omega3 (with EPA+DHA) 300mg

I am over 200lbs and have been taking 20caps for the last week consistently and I hope/pray to god I dont have to take more than 20 a day. Fish burps anyone??

Also, my wife thinks 20 capsules a day is absurd and dangerous. Could you expound on why so many or the 1g/10lb/day ratio?

Thanks in advance,
Nathan

Hey Robb,

How do you know if you have a cortisol problem with losing weight? Also, thanks for the info on fish oil (10g/1olbs/day). I never knew that. I was taking about 2 caps (GNC brand)/day. Do I have to take that into account when eating other fat sources. I wouldn't think Im at a level where i need to increase fat intake. I am 6'2" 224# and cant seem to shake off my mid section.

Thanks,
Nathan

Hi Robb~
Thanks so much for such an informational and entertainingly funny day at CF PDX! I just came across this Paleo shopping list http://www.goodharvestmarket.com/special_diets/paleo_foods.html
linked from Melissa Byers' website and it recommends eating no more than 6 eggs per week. What do you think about this? I remember you saying that for every egg yolk we toss in the garbage an angel in heaven gets it's wings ripped off- well I want to avoid that, but most importanly I want to avoid overdosing on eggs since I eat them just about every day- yolk and all.
Thanks~

Shoot for 20g fish oil/day and see how that affects things. If it's cortisol you will need some other tinkering.

Rob,
I would love to hear more about the belly fat/cortisol connection. I have lost over 60 pounds and 9" off my waist. I am 6.3" 228 currently. I have leaned out and look vascular and cut everywhere but my belly. I am still holding onto fat around the belly. I eat very low carb high protein/fat diet. I do crossfit 3-5 days a week. Sleep is good some nights, not so good other nights. I do where a CPAP to sleep. I do not take fish oil. I am really starting to get frustrated with the belly fat and could use any advice you can give.
As always thanks for your great web site.

The coconut and whey shakes are the bomb. I bought the coconut milk and mixed chocolate pro powder and copious amounts of ice in the blender. Wow, I was very impressed. The milk and powder taste great and the extra ice really fills you up and stops the desire to eat more at night. Overall, we love your website and I send all of our athletes to check it out. I am looking forward to you book release. It will be a must read at our box. Keep up the great work.

Chris-
If you are being quite detailed on the NHE plan you need to count any non-fiber carb. Nuts will vary. Almonds are almost all fiber with regards to carbs, cashews by contrast, have a pretty hefty dose of starch...you do need to track that stuff.

That umbilicus fat is (IMO) a sign of high cortisol...pretty classic Poliquin biosignature stuff. How is she sleeping? Quantity and quality? How much fish oil? You might bump her up to 1.0g/10lbs/day and see if that starts things moving. If she has cortisol issues they can be managed but it's outside the scope I'd need more info to dial it in

Hey Robb,
I bought and read the NHE book you suggested and got really good results from trying his version of the CLC but as I am wading my way through it and the low carb in general the authors take on "hidden carbs" and accounting for them Im just being over paranoid on what to exactly count.
For instance I use agave, do I count the carbs in it? Or nuts, do I count the carbs? When taking a CLC approach, basically what Im asking is, is what carbs should I be counting?
Also, 1 of my clients, pretty good paleo eater, cant measure because its too much food on the zone, wods 3x+ a week, 2 kids, 33yrs old, cant seem to shake the last bit of belly fat. She is pretty lean with good definition and good muscle, but right around the belly button region, cant shake the fat. Im wondering if it is fat or maybe just two kiddies into it does that? any suggestions.
You=awesome!
Take care

I bought and read the NHE book you suggested and got really good results from trying his version of the CLC but as I am wading my way through it and the low carb in general the authors take on “hidden carbs” and accounting for them Im just being over paranoid on what to exactly count.
You=awesome!
Take care
